Winter tires are still mandatory

All-wheel drive helps you get moving and keep traction, but it does not help you stop. In Quebec, winter tires are mandatory from December 1 to March 15, AWD or not. If the SUV you like does not come with winter tires, include that cost in your budget.

Fuel use and budget

An AWD SUV usually uses a little more fuel than the same front-wheel drive version, and its tires often cost more. Compare the total cost: price, fuel, insurance and maintenance.
